A Trip To Melaka

A few days ago, my school's St.John Ambulance Malaysia committee hosted a trip to Melaka and visited a few places. We visited a few dialysis centres, a HQ for St.John Ambulance Malaysia, a disabled centre and a orphanage. We recruited arpund 40 members and 4 teachers to come along for this trip.

On day one, we went to two dialysis centres and learnt about patients that are having kidney failures and how do they operate their dialysis centres. Apparently, each patient needs 3 treatments per week. Every alternate day, they have to visit the dialysis centre and spend 4 hours there having a tube stuck to their neck or arm. We saw how the blood goes through the tube and into the dialysis machine. In the dialysis machine, it has miliions of mini filters to filter the dirty blood. Our guide told us all about the dialysis centre and took us on a tour in their centre.

On day two, we went to the headquarters for St.John Ambulance Malaysia in Melaka. They told us their history and their heart unit. Every first Thursday of the month, their HQ will be open for patients who wants a check up on their heart. The supportness from their members who are willing to help out even after a whole day at work really inspires me. Even if they are tired, they are still happy to put on a smile and help the patients. They then showed us their heart unit workplace and it was quite small but manageble.

It was day three and we had to go home. The members had learnt a lot and they were grateful for this journey to Melaka. I hope the members will continue to contribute to St.John and realise that all their doings had not gone to waste.
